    THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE FURNITURE

Nature is not only all around us, we take it into our homes. Wood needs care and understanding. Wood lives on in the furniture. It gently moves with changes of atmosphere and room temperatures. Understand and enjoy the tree birthmark within the grain pattern and natural knot configuration. Most of our Indian Furniture is produced from Sheesham trees, which is an Indian hard wood and is sourced from carefully planned and Government maintained plantation programs. All items are hand made to give each piece individual charm. Therefore, every piece is unique. The tools used can leave small cracks in the wood that are visible. However these should not be viewed as a fault but as a positive sign that the item is handmade.

    WOODCARE

To preserve the beauty of the furniture it is first stained and than treated with wax/oil. On a fairly regular basis we recommended that you wax/oil your furniture to develop the full warmth and richness of the wood and increase its resistance to water marks, scratches, and warping. Use a Beeswax/Boiled linseed Oil, which is available at our shop or can be bought from most hardware shops.

Follow our after-care instructions to cherish your purchase.

  • Avoid placing your furniture adjacent to radiator or direct heat, this promotes               cracking.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can also promote movement and fading.

  • Avoid spillages, especially those that contain alcohol. See below on what to do if a       spillage does occur.

  • Do not place hot/chilled items directly on to the surface, use of plate mat is always     recommended.

  • Do not use soap and water or detergents of any kind on this product for cleaning. To     maintain the characteristic finish on this furniture, do not use aerosol sprays or any       polish containing Silicon.

  • Do not place furniture onto a wet or damp floor as staining may occur on the floor.

  • For general cleaning use a duster or damp cloth (almost dry).

  • From time to time it may be necessary to tighten fittings. This is normal and regular     inspections should be carried out.

  • Some movement of the wood is natural and should be expected.

  • Any irregularities and differentiation of colour are part of the nature occurrence and       should not be considered as defects. Wood breathes and moves and is totally natural.

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO WAX YOUR FURNITURE

    1. Ensure all surfaces are clean and dry.
    2. Take a soft cloth and apply the wax generously all over.
    3. Leave for a few minutes.
    4. Buff up using a soft cloth, following the grain where possible.
    5. A second application can then be applied if desired.

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO OIL YOUR FURNITURE

    1. Ensure all surfaces are clean and dry.
    2. Take a soft cloth and oil evenly and liberally, until the wood is evenly oiled and the       wood has stopped absorbing it.
    3. Rub the oil firmly into the wood with the heels of your hands, working along the           grain.
    4. Finally, after thoroughly rubbing all surfaces, wipe the piece of furniture clean with a     clean cloth. You must remove all excess oil; there should only be a very thin film of       oil on the surface of the wood.
    5. Throw away used cloths as they will be flammable.

    SPILLAGES

If spillages do occur try first to wax/oil the item, as above. If this does not get rid of the mark you will have to gently rub away the old wax/oil with some wire wool. Then apply a stain to the lightened area to match the original colouring. Leave and then apply a wax/oil as usual.
