This magnificent and breathtaking bookshelf includes many hand carved elements crafted by highly skilled artisan craftsman. These include an extraordinarily intricate vintage half-link chain that originates from Kerala, South India. This eye-catching element has been incorporated into the piece and provides a stunning look. This item of furniture is a very special piece and one that we had never come across before or seen the like of and couldn’t resist inn bringing it back to the U.k for others to cherish. This beautiful item of furniture exudes craftsmanship, history, culture and place and is truly unique and very special.

Visual Description

The carcass of this piece has been made using mango wood and there have been four shelves fitted providing plenty of storage and/or display areas. The hand carved elements continue throughout the surround of the bookcase. In addition to the half-link chain, ornate scroll and decoration work has been hand carved and flows around the whole piece. There can also be found ‘pillar’ like bases incorporated into the piece, further enhancing it’s charm and character. This staggering item of furniture exudes craftsmanship, history, culture and place while being a true one-off item that would bring a small part of India’s rich tapestry into the home.

Uses

This extraordiany item of furniture is likely best housed downstairs. I can see it in a large entranceway where it draws a dramatic look on first sight. Away from here, it is probably best suited to a living room where it can hold many books and/or ornaments. A quite staggering item of furniture and my favourite purchase on our last visit.
