Extraordinary 100 Year Old Nagaland Mortar
This unusual and unique antique mortar has been hand carved from a single tree trunk by ‘forest-people’ in Nagaland out in the northern eastern reaches of India. Used over a century ago for grinding spices in they are constructed out of one piece through wonderfully skilled carving producing a rugged and heavy utilitarian object. It also have two large metal rings to aid in lifting and carrying and I guess could be used as a plant holder or simply as a unique decorative item.
